What if you're missing the purpose?
by journey-on infor those of you who espouse the philosophy that one needs to discard who we "think" we are and embrace the "reality" of who we really are, what if, there is a divine purpose to our miniscule existence in the here and now and that purpose is to experience the pull of opposite forces (duality), and you are missing it by not allowing yourself to experience the ego self?
what if you are missing the whole purpose of this pull of pain and joy by trying to suppress it or place yourself outside of it?
the below is a short story sent to me by a friend and it is an example of what i'm inferring.

Bigdreaux,
Thank you for your explanation. I'm very happy to find a Cajun on here. Do you know if they express the idea the same way in Quebec and New Brunswick ?
In a former life, when I was folk dancing crazy, a Cajun music band, les Frères BALFA, came over on a tour to play and make us shake a leg. Unfortunately, I heard the whole family died later in a car accident. Have you ever heard of them ? Mind you, it must be about 25 years back. I treasure their vinyl record. BTW, I will never recommend enough folk dancing as an excellent socializing activity for anyone in want following a departing from the congregation.
Off topic to alleviate this existential anguish laden thread which, fortunately for my understanding, turned more practical of late. I must admit I didn't get all of the exchanged arguments but I suppose it has been useful to those implied.

Laissez les bons temps rouler
Bigdreaux,
I'm puzzled about the meaning of that phrase. Is it something like enjoy good moments to the full, now and here ? Ronsard put it nicely, too, talking to the girl he was courting :
Vivez, si m'en croyez,
n'attendez à demain,
cueillez dès aujourd'hui
les roses de la vie
In fact I believe the girl was very young and he was quite mature, so he had to be a bit insistant...

Yes, SMS, I've come to the same conclusion, there's less research in WT and AW articles. Is it that people who have taken over H. Peloyan are less imaginative, less thorough, or that there are fewer people in the redaction department to gather information...or is it just weariness on the reader's part ?

Perfection
by purplesofa ini was talking to a friend of mine about perfection last night.. he made a comment that there was no way to have perfection, unless you made one thing and set that as perfect.
everything after that would be a copy and otherwise would always in some way fall short of perfect, the original creation.
we were talking about art.. and then he made a comment that god did not create us perfectly.

I've a rather traditional view of perfection and JW's explanation doesn't embarrasses me. When we see that something is wrong, whether on a physical or moral point of view, we say that it is imperfect because we compare it to a standard which, itself, we grasp within our own limits. If we remain at that human stage, we will, indeed, find everything is relative since we haven't got any absolute standard to lean against. Now, if we put God in the picture we, actually, don't go much further in the knowledge of perfection because He is the only one who knows what the absolute standard is. So, wait and see, when in paradise earth we'll know if God keeps us, somehow, from crushing ants under our feet or if this crushing is part of perfection...

If you want a newbie's report it's now or never, in 1 or 2 days it'll be too late.
Nothing special with me, I'm still a JW, inactive, accompanying my wife to the TS and service meeting when she wishes to, which is not always. I want the whole family (wife and teen son and daughter) to attend the WE meeting in order to hear a Bible based talk and keep informed about new WT topics (daughter loves drawing on mags too) , sit comfortably, have a rest and reflect but, as I told the 2 elders who came to pay me a sheperding call one month ago, I consider it as a routine practice, the way I would do in christendom, since I don't view myself as a militant JW anymore.
Told them that preaching one hour a month or nothing was the same so I would do just as well not to preach at all. Why so ? they asked. I said that the message we preach is plainly monstruous : there are, according to demographic charts, about 600 millions babies and infants under age 4 in the world at the moment, not even Molech did require such a slaughter to "vindicate" his sovereignty. Jehovah simply can't be that sort of god. In addition, His justice will keep Him from destroying poverty by means of destroying the poor. Surprisingly, there was no hostile reaction on the part of the 2 elders and we found that we agreed (I guess that that the older one regretted having brought the younger one along, though). In the end, I told them that I prefer to keep silent and rely on Jehovah's justice since, as the CO had warned me last year, any discourse different from the official one would be apostate.
I keep silent during meetings and don't attend the book study anymore, so as not to weaken the brothers' faith with stray comments (was priviledged with a warning talk from the platform about dangers of free speech) . So, why are you staying in, you might rightly ask ? Because if I DA or be DFed (I might be, though, if I'm too vocal), my wife will be in a ghetto, her JW friends won't visit her at home anylonger. Second, I've not found any alternative satisfactory religion yet , but I'm open to offers. Mind, it'll have to be satisfactory ! Conclusion, life is full of contradictions which we have to assume.
Apart from that, the kids have long since understood that I leave them total freedom to choose. Since I got baptized past 30, they have plenty of time to reflect. Besides, all their friends are out of the congregation) . That's all, folks !

What Lies or False Statements Has The Watchtower Society Been Guilty Of?

Starting point for any reflection, there're no problems, only solutions.
For important pbs, I walk around in the lounge like an animal, late at night, when all family members are in bed. If necessary, the concern will wake me up in the small hours for me to think over it and I 'll only go back to sleep when a seemingly satisfactory solution has been reached. Then, I talk to my wife to see how my ideas hold when expressed and how the solution passes the test, and that's were the process of exchange starts. Which makes my wife say that I submit my ideas to her inasmuch as I've already made up my mind. That's absolutely untrue, I put great store on her opinion and, in an actual fact, I side with her most of the time.

Any Suggestions for Curbing Kids' Internet Access?
by Scully inwhat kind of measures do other parents take to help kids navigate the internet safely?.
i hate msn and other iming programs - there's far too much potential for mischief with that service available.. are there some easy ways to block sites or isps?
or is it better to set it up with approved sites only?.

In an attempt to keep computer use under control, as far as internet is concerned, I want to have the device installed in the lounge. In addition to having the parental control harware, I myself plug in the MP3-type link to the wi-fi box after I've made sure my 2 teen kids have gotten their homework done. When I'm away in day time I keep the MP3 key with me.They share the available time, so that they keep an eye on each other. No easy ready-made solution, though, computer takes a lot of their reading time. As far as video games are concerned, it's much more difficult to control.
